£30 - 45 minute session

Indian Head Massage is an Ayurvedic massage therapy in which the upper-back, arms, head, neck and face are massaged, with or without the use of oils, using a range of massage techniques.

The History of Indian Head Massage

Also popularly known as Champissage, the massage is practiced in India for over 1000 years. In the beginning, it was just centered around the head alone with the aim of improving Indian women hair growth and condition them. It was introduced in the west in 1970s by Narendra Mehta. In this era, the Indian Head Massage also gets evolved to use for face, neck, shoulders and upper arms.

Now it addresses the body’s most important energy channels and also help combat stress in the muscles.

It clears blocks in the meridians (energy channels) that cause a build-up of negative energy that are purported to cause ailments. The belief is that when the energy does not flow properly, negative energy builds up, causing common ailments, including stress and pain.

Indian head massage stimulates the nerves from the head area. This helps you to relax which, in turn, improves mental and physical health. It also increases circulation, exfoliates the scalp and nourishes the hair.

What does Indian Head Massage involve?

You (the client) are fully clothed, sitting on a chair for the treatment. Your therapist uses a range of different movements including application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas.

In addition, your therapist will also gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face.

The full session will usually last forty-five minutes, including pre and post care advice.
